About burying the Qur'an with the dead
"Now in China there is a new phenomenon, which is the Holy Qur’an is buried with the dead"

Question :
asselamu alaikum!
Respectfully scholar! I am a Chinese student, now in China there is a new phenomenon, which is the Holy Qur’an is buried with the dead, some Chinese Imams say this is a good deed, this deed will protect the dead from the hell. The imam’s citing a lot of proofs to support his opinion. I want you may give a fatwa to this matter with Qur’anic proof and Hadith: that is “bury Quran with the dead” is allowed or not allowed? Thanks a lot.
Answer:
All praise is due to Allah The Exalted, and may Allah raise the rank of our beloved Prophet Muhammad ﷺ, his kind relatives and companions, and protect his nation from that which he feared for them thereafter;
Among the essentials of belief is to believe in glorifying the honourable Qur’an and guarding it from being stepped on, discarded among the rubbish, or coming in contact with any offal or filth.
Based on this principle belief, to place the Qur’an in a grave is to place it with the decaying dead body and other soil-related substances that aid the disintegration of the Qur’anic text. Hence, protecting the Qur’an from such matters is an obligation.
Furthermore, the one who seeks to benefit the dead Muslim by the Qur’an does so by reciting the Qur’an correctly- whether at the grave or afar, and intending to pass a similar reward earned by recitation to the dead Muslim’s soul.
We humbly ask Allah to enlighten us with the light of Knowledge and keep us steadfast to the path of truth and righteousness. Ameen.
